Top Pro Muhoozi MP Micheal Mawanda Sweats In Court , Remanded For Allegedly Defrauding Billions Of Money

The Patriotic League of Uganda’s disciplinary section head Hon Mawanda Micheal Maranga also member of parliament for Igara East Constituency in Bushenyi District today appeared in court.

Mawanda and three others, Hon. Wamakuyu Ignatuis Mudimi of Elgon County in Bulambuli District, Hon. Akamba Paul of Busiki County in Namutumba District and Lawyer Kirya Julius of Kirya Company Advocates plus others still at large have been arrigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of Diversion of Funds and Conspiracy to Defraud.T

he accused conspired and diverted over UGX3.4B meant for war loss compensation by government to Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society for their personal use.

They have been remanded until 9th July 2024.Yesterday ,Police searched the home of Igara East MP, Michael Mawanda Maranga who was arrested on the evening of 19th June 2024.

Mawanda, is the fourth MP to be arrested on charges related to embezzlement and mismanagement of taxpayer money.

Last week, Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju, Busiki County MP Paul Akamba and Bunyole East MP Yusuf Mutembuli were charged and remanded to prison over corruption related charges.

The trio is accused of divertng over Shs73m meant to compensate war veterans.On these fresh charges, Akamba, Muduni and Mawanda are jointly charged with City Lawyer Julius Kirya Taitankoko and Leonard Kavundira, the principal cooperative officer, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
