Mathias Mpuuga, the Member of Parliament representing Nyendo-Mukungwe, recently revealed that he is yet to receive the Shs500 million designated by Parliament as his ‘Service Award,’ sparking reactions from the National Unity Platform (NUP), the political party to which he is affiliated, and the general public.
In an exclusive interview on CBS FM this morning, Mpuuga, a former Leader of the Opposition, asserted his rightful claim to the monetary recognition. Emphasizing his commitment to integrity, he stated, “I am awaiting the funds because I deserve them. I maintain a corruption-free record, and the Parliamentary Commission handled the process legally.”
Despite NUP President Bobi Wine’s morning statement detailing an urgent meeting with top party leaders advising Mpuuga’s resignation from the Commission in the public interest, Mpuuga insists that the ongoing issues have not been addressed in a ‘serious manner.’ He highlights a lack of committee decisions on the matter.
Clarifying his stance, Mpuuga expressed, “I harbor no resentment towards my President as I am innocent. However, I cannot allow my reputation to be tarnished, and I choose not to remain silent.”
When questioned about his future steps after rejecting the call to step down as a Commissioner of Parliament, Mpuuga cryptically responded, “The notion that I already have plans is premature. I will make announcements when plans are finalized.” He hinted at the potential for rectifying the perceived mistakes in the ongoing situation.
