Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine and serving as the leader of the National Unity Platform, has unveiled a call to action for mass uprisings against President Museveni’s nearly four-decade rule, even prior to his potential bid for re-election in the 2026 general elections.

In an interview with FRANCE24 Television Channel, Bobi Wine asserted that President Museveni’s intentions parallel those of previous terms, as he is steadfast in prolonging his tenure to reach 45 years in power.

“While the 2026 election looms, we firmly believe that Museveni aims to replicate his actions from 2016 and 2021. Hence, we are rallying the Ugandan populace to assert their authority through peaceful, unarmed resistance, as permitted by our constitution, to oust Gen Museveni,” stated Bobi Wine.

Moreover, Bobi Wine emphasized their advocacy for civil disobedience and a revolutionary movement to terminate Museveni’s rule, which commenced in 1986 following a five-year guerrilla war against the then Obote Regime.

When questioned about the contingency plan should the revolution fail to defeat Museveni before 2026, Bobi Wine affirmed their commitment to exhaust all constitutional avenues, including contesting the forthcoming elections, anticipating a sweeping victory for the opposition.

Additionally, he underscored their intent to leverage the elections as a catalyst for the mass revolution they aspire to instigate.

“If the uprising does not materialize by 2026, we have reiterated our dedication to employing every moral and constitutional means to effect change. Should we participate in an election, it will serve as both a method and a catalyst for the revolution we fervently desire,” Bobi Wine conveyed to France 24.
