President Yoweri Museveni, in response to recent revelations, has pledged to expose and defeat opposition leaders involved in presenting Ugandans before international human rights commissions, falsely claiming torture by the ruling Government. The commitment comes after Moses Ssimbwa, a Jinja resident, disclosed that he was lured by the opposition, including figures like Robert Kyagulanyi, Kizza Besigye, and Mugisha Muntu, to make up allegations of brutal torture during the 2021 elections.

Ssimbwa, previously showcased on 17th November 2022 at the Uganda Human Rights Accountability Conference in Nairobi, asserted that the opposition, promising to cover his medical expenses as a known accident victim, manipulated him to tarnish the government’s image. Contrary to his earlier claims, Ssimbwa admitted that he was not tortured by the government.

President Museveni, addressing the matter, emphasized the administration’s awareness of opposition tactics and assured the public that these deceptive practices would be exposed in due course. He underscored the opposition’s history of deceit, aiming to portray the regime as unscrupulous, citing instances where they falsified torture victims.
