“I Can’t Apologize For Being Rich , I Was A Billionaire Even Before I Became Deputy Speaker” Thomas Tayebwa Speaks Out On His Shs. 76M Watch
On May 27th, Ugandans took to Twitter and claimed the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa wears a $20000 watch as netizens continue questioning the lifestyle of government officials.
Tayebwa is not the first to elicit debate on his lifestyle as his boss too Speaker Anita has always faced the same occasionally while rocking super expensive dresses which netizens normally go search online and find their actual prices ranging in 1000s of dollars.
However, known for taking no prisoner, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa has come out with guns brazing saying he owe no apology to any body for donning an expensive watch since it’s his life and his money.
Speaking at the 4th Annual National Project Management Conference in Kampala today, the Deputy Speaker says people thing that whatever he buys as an individual, he uses tax payer’s money which ain’t true and some times Ugandans would wish to get apologies from individuals for being successful or hardworking saying he employs over 400 people in his businesses, how could he fail to get something nice for himself ‘Riyale’.
“Through my businesses, I employ over 400 people but even when I buy a watch, people think i have used taxpayers’ money. So, if i can look after 400 families, why wouldn’t i afford to buy myself something good and look nice? Some Ugandans want yo to apologize for being happy, successful and hardworking. Never apologize for being any of these,”-said Tayebwa as reported by Monitor.
Meanwhile, Those who support this viewpoint have presented the 2021 campaign photo of Tayebwa showing him donning the same expensive watch. Then he was not yet a government chief whip nor had he become deputy speaker.
“This was before Thomas Tayebwa became Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The watch he is wearing here is one of the 50 pieces ever manufactured. Shop was closed after the 50 pieces were made. He seems like a watch collector. Rich people things!” wrote Lindah Nduwumwami.
“The watch has been here since long ago. This is the official poster Tayebwa used in the 2021 elections before he became Deputy Speaker. For those who have been WATCHING him, you know!” emphasized Nelson Bwire Kapo.
Tayebwa’s senior colleague, speaker Anita Among has been on the spot over her wealth, with the UK slapping sanctions against her over corruption.
