In a historic turn of events within the realm of Ugandan politics, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially fronted Rosemary Olwoc, daughter of the late Cecilia Ogwal, as the rightful successor set to carry forward her mother’s enduring legacy in the picturesque Dokolo district.

Cecilia Ogwal, a luminary and influential person in Ugandan political circles, breathed her last at the age of 78 after valiantly confronting cancer in India on January 18. Her final resting place, a poignant moment, was marked in Lira on January 27.

Initiating her remarkable political odyssey in 1996 as the Lira Municipality MP, Cecilia Ogwal’s steadfast dedication to public service propelled her to triumph in securing the Dokolo Woman MP seat in 2005. Her tenure in this role persisted until her recent passing, during which she gracefully transitioned from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the course of her illustrious career.

The transitional ceremony, conducted at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, bore witness to party leader Patrick Oboi Amuriat paying homage to Cecilia Ogwal’s extensive years of devoted service. Amuriat vehemently decried the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), emphasizing concerns regarding familial dominance within the NRM and advocating fervently for a more democratic political landscape.

Rosemary Olwoc, stepping into the formidable shoes of her mother’s political heritage, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support bestowed upon her by the FDC. She solemnly pledged to persist in the tireless advocacy for the people of Dokolo, marking a momentous generational shift within the party and a resolute commitment to upholding the principles championed by Cecilia Ogwal.

The strategic decision of the FDC to officially endorse Rosemary Olwoc as their candidate for Dokolo not only serves as a testament to the party’s unwavering confidence in her capabilities but also signifies a calculated maneuver aimed at addressing the distinct political needs of the Dokolo constituency.

As the dynamic political landscape continues to evolve, there is an undeniable sense of anticipation within the Dokolo constituency, eager for a revitalized perspective under the capable leadership of Cecilia Ogwal’s esteemed daughter.
