The nation’s security bosses are strategizing on how to confront and counter the anticipated attack by supporters of Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba from the National Unity Platform (NUP). These supporters are planning to expel party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), his family, and members of the Fire Base Crew from the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule.

This development follows Masaka City Councillor Ali Kateregga’s meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni last week, during which he urged Museveni to release all NUP political prisoners. Kateregga stated that in the coming months, Bobi Wine and his team will be barred from accessing the party headquarters.

He emphasized that as party leaders, they cannot tolerate Bobi Wine’s actions, which they perceive as misleading their members and undermining their primary goal of removing President Museveni from power. Kateregga criticized Bobi Wine for publicly insulting him and labeling him an idiot for openly engaging with President Museveni to secure the release of NUP political prisoners.

Kateregga argued that it was hypocritical for Bobi Wine to criticize him when other party leaders clandestinely meet with Museveni, disguised in traditional attire, to negotiate political deals instead of advocating for the release of political prisoners.

In the same development, former Kawempe South legislator Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga revealed that ongoing meetings chaired by Mpuuga aim to employ legal means to remove Bobi Wine and his associates from the Kavule headquarters.

Munyagwa disclosed that they have engaged a legal team to pursue their case in the Courts of law. The lawyers have initiated proceedings by petitioning Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama’s Independent Electoral Commission to grant them access to NUP’s Amended Constitution, audited financial records, and other relevant documents.

He asserted that the lawyers are confident that Bobi Wine is violating the party Constitution by failing to establish the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and other party structures.NUP, through their party X handle, confirmed that they are still operating under the old constitution inherited from Moses Kibalama’s National Unity Reconciliation and Development Party.

Munyagwa contends that this constitution does not authorize Bobi Wine to suspend his deputies, as he did to Mpuuga. He elaborated that the mentioned Constitution grants more authority to deputies than to the president, who is primarily elected to represent the party during presidential elections.Additionally, he noted that the amended Constitution, used by Bobi Wine to suspend Mpuuga, lacks authorization from Justice Byabakama’s electoral commission and remains non-operational.

NUP leadership admitted administrative issues are being addressed before implementing the amended Constitution.Munyagwa further stated that Mpuuga’s legal team found evidence of financial mismanagement within NUP under Bobi Wine’s leadership. This includes funds received from the electoral commission as a political party with legislators in parliament.

He anticipates potential criminal charges, such as corruption and abuse of office, against Bobi Wine and other party leaders, including Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi, Bobi Wine’s wife, and Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the party’s deputy spokesperson.Munyagwa emphasized that the legal team is confident of securing victory in court, with an anticipated order to prevent Bobi Wine and other party leaders from accessing the party headquarters.

“To stop them, security has to come in and Bobi Wine will be thrown out of the party leadership as Mpuuga and other people run the party in acting capacity as the party organizes its National Conference in 2025,” Munyagwa said.

Senior Presidential Advisor on media, Joseph Tamale Mirundi claims that Mpuuga rubbished the advice to form a new political party because he wants to use the party constitution and other laws of the land to force Bobi Wine out of the party leadership.

On the other hand, Munyagwa warned that if Mpuuga’s plans proceed, there might be bloodshed within NUP because Bobi Wine’s supporters, particularly the foot soldiers, will not tolerate Mpuuga’s actions against Bobi Wine.Recently, Mufumbiro emphasized that Bobi Wine is a prominent figure in both entertainment and political circles.

He cited the Fire Base Crew members as an example, who vowed to fiercely defend Bobi Wine against any perceived threats from individuals like Mpuuga. When contacted by The Grapevine, one of the security officials stated that they are actively gathering intelligence but are prepared to respond swiftly to any security challenges arising from the Mpuuga-Bobi Wine conflict.

He acknowledged the potential for the conflict between Bobi Wine and Mpuuga to escalate, drawing parallels to the historical feud between Dr. Kizza Besigye and Nathan Nandala Mafabi in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), especially if their supporters resort to physical confrontation.

Last week, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament and party spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, expressed readiness for negotiations with Mpuuga.Several religious and cultural leaders have urged both Bobi Wine and Mpuuga to resolve their differences amicably through mediation.
