Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga has cautioned the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP) against internal conflicts.Mayiga queried whether the leading opposition party was prepared to assume government leadership if they couldn’t resolve minor disagreements among themselves.

“You need to exhibit patience with each other,” Mayiga emphasized.

“Hon (Joel) Ssenyonyi you have two children. But when they start to grow, you will notice that they are different from one another even though they are still your children. Will you then throw one of them outside?”

Addressing the ongoing standoff between the NUP leadership and party Vice President Mathias Mpuuga, Mayiga drew parallels, highlighting the uniqueness of individual members within a collective.

Mayiga, while acknowledging the need for conflict resolution mechanisms within the party, urged NUP leaders to refrain from airing their internal disputes publicly.

During a courtesy visit to the Buganda Premier’s office in Bulange Mengo, NUP leaders, including Joel Ssenyonyi and David Rubongoya, alongside Secretary General, convened to express support for the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run.

Mayiga praised NUP for its youthful leadership and commended the new Leader of the Opposition, Ssenyonyi, for his proactive approach.

“You have to learn to be patient and respect one another. You have to learn all these things while you are still in opposition because if you don’t, what will happen when you take power? Will you be approachable?”

He added, “Not all who make mistakes deserve to be killed. I am your elder as the Katikkiro of Buganda and I have to teach you this.”

He also commended the new Leader of the Opposition, Ssenyonyi for hitting the ground running.Ssenyonyi’s three-month leadership at parliament has been characterized by a fierce push to uncover corruption tendencies inside the government and the parliamentary institution itself.
