Fred Nyanzi, a prominent political figure, has firmly rejected the idea of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba succeeding his father, President Yoweri Museveni, as Uganda’s next leader.

Responding to remarks by Hon. Betty Nambooze, who recently suggested that Uganda is witnessing a political transition with a “prince” being prepared to take over, Nyanzi dismissed the possibility outright.

“I heard Nambooze mention that there is a prince in waiting. I want to assure everyone that not in this Uganda,” Nyanzi declared, emphasizing that the idea of dynastic politics has no place in the country’s democratic aspirations.

Nambooze had earlier criticized President Museveni for allegedly positioning his son, Muhoozi, as his political heir. She noted that Museveni’s recent 80th birthday celebration symbolized a strategic move toward aligning his son to assume power.

“We are witnessing Uganda transition, with them aligning a ‘prince’ to take charge. However, he is always posting things that even those in charge don’t know how to respond to,” Nambooze said, alluding to Muhoozi’s controversial social media activity.

Nyanzi’s strong denouncement reflects growing resistance to what many perceive as a push for dynastic succession. The remarks come as Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, with political tensions and leadership debates intensifying.

The opposition continues to rally against what they call a systematic attempt to consolidate power within the Museveni family, vowing to fight for democratic reforms and prevent a political dynasty from taking root.
