MP Cecilia Ogwal’s Daughter Fronted For Dokolo Woman MP Seat To Complete Mother’s Projects

Following the recent passing of Cecilia Ogwal, a prominent figure in the community, a family meeting was convened to discuss her legacy and unfinished projects. Cecilia Ogwal’s eldest daughter, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal (PhD), has been endorsed by the family to run for the Dokolo Woman MP seat, according to a reliable source.

The family recognized that several of Cecilia Ogwal’s ongoing projects required parliamentary representation for their realization. Additionally, the importance of continuing the charity initiatives initiated by the late Cecilia Ogwal was emphasized, with the consensus that a family member closely associated with her should step forward.

“After several hours of discussion, they agreed to front Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal as the candidate for the Dokolo Woman MP position,” the source added.

The funeral for Cecilia Ogwal, who passed away on January 18 in India, took place on Saturday, January 27, in Alito, Kole district. The decision to support Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal was reinforced by a delegation of voters from over 60 parishes in Dokolo district. This delegation visited the family after the burial and expressed their desire for Dr. Rosemary Ogwal to continue the work initiated by her late mother.

They highlighted ongoing Church, education, livelihood, and development projects that were at risk following Cecilia’s demise. Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal’s educational background includes studies at Mt St Mary’s Namagunga from S1 to S6. She later pursued her undergraduate degree in Law in the UK, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Economics. She has since been practicing as an economist.

In accordance with electoral laws, bye-elections are expected to be held within 60 days after Parliament declares a seat vacant. Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal’s candidacy has garnered significant attention not only from her family but also from the wider community, who recognize her as a capable successor to her mother’s impactful legacy.

With her extensive educational background and experience in economics, she is poised to effectively advocate for the interests of the Dokolo Woman constituency in Parliament. Moreover, the overwhelming support she has received from various stakeholders underscores the deep trust and confidence placed in her ability to continue the vital work initiated by Cecilia Ogwal.
