Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a seasoned journalist, author, and political analyst, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 59, leaving behind a legacy of fearless commentary and unwavering commitment to truth.

According to reports, Mirundi succumbed to lung-related complications at Kisubi Hospital in Kampala, where he had been receiving treatment for over a month.

The hospitalization followed a prolonged period of illness, during which Mirundi’s condition had shown signs of improvement on Sunday and Monday. However, his health took a sharp turn for the worse on Tuesday, leading to his untimely demise at around 11:40 P.M.

Doctors revealed that Mirundi had been suffering from fluid accumulation in his lungs, which they had been draining. However, during the procedure on Tuesday, blood was extracted instead of fluid, resulting in further complications that ultimately led to his passing.

Mirundi’s illustrious career spanned over two decades, during which he served as the presidential press secretary for approximately 13 years until his dismissal by President Yoweri Museveni in July 2015. In 2019, he courageously disclosed that he had been poisoned, although it remains unclear whether he fully recovered from the incident.

Born in 1964 in Rakai District, Mirundi was a prominent figure in Ugandan media, renowned for his sharp commentary and incisive analysis across various platforms. He contributed to numerous reputable outlets, including Radio 4, NBS TV, Top Radio, Beat FM, ABS TV, Impact FM, STV Uganda, Pearl FM, and Metro FM.

Mirundi’s academic background, which includes a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Communication, equipped him with a unique perspective on Ugandan politics and society. He attended Lubiri Secondary School and was the son of Molly Namatovu and Yowana Mirundi.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across the country, with many mourning the loss of a true patriot and champion of truth. Mirundi’s legacy will continue to inspire and shape the future of Ugandan journalism and politics.
