During his recent appearance on Radio 4, owned by Balaam Barugahara, the outspoken social commentator shared his perspective, emphasizing that Bobi Wine, also known as Robert Kyagulanyi, stands as the sole qualifying celebrity in Uganda.
Frank Gashumba, known for his controversial societal views, pointed to Kyagulanyi’s recent ventures in California as evidence of his elevated celebrity status. Gashumba expressed a clear distinction, labeling other artists as mere “masqueraders” and “impersonators” in contrast to Kyagulanyi, who, in his view, has transcended into a different realm, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Beyonce.
In defining celebrity status, Gashumba highlighted various aspects such as fashion sense, social circles, and the extravagant nature of one’s lifestyle. “Show me a celebrity with a brand-new car!” he challenged, dismissing the notion by citing that local artists, including Bebe Cool, often drive second-hand cars.
When questioned about Bebe Cool’s reported acquisition of an armored car in September 2023, Gashumba skeptically responded, questioning the whereabouts of the said vehicle. He maintained that Kyagulanyi had ascended beyond the struggles and was now primarily focused on enjoying a lifestyle akin to Hollywood celebrities.
Gashumba, a prominent figure in the Patriotic League of Uganda under the leadership of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, reiterated that Kyagulanyi had moved beyond the realm of political struggle, emphasizing his newfound dedication to mingling with the elite in Hollywood.
