Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine, accompanied by National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya, has traveled to Santiago, Chile, to participate in an influential international forum focused on addressing global threats to democracy.
Rubongoya shared the news on X, explaining that their trip aims to collaborate with global leaders and activists to confront the escalating challenges to freedom and democracy worldwide.
“With freedom and democracy under attack across various regions, we are joining forces with leaders and activists to exchange ideas and discuss solutions. Together, we are stronger!” he wrote.
Bobi Wine shared similar views, expressing hope and determination to learn from countries that have successfully fought back against democratic repression.
“We are gathering in Santiago, Chile, alongside leaders and activists from all over the world to address the threats against democracy and explore ways to overcome them,” he posted on X.
Wine further emphasized the significance of such global engagements, stating, “I am particularly inspired to meet those who have experienced struggles similar to ours and have succeeded in driving change in their countries. Change is possible!”
Their participation in this international event highlights their ongoing commitment to advocating for political reform in Uganda.
The trip comes at a time of growing political tension in Uganda, where opposition leaders continue to face arrests, harassment, and restrictions. The event serves as a platform for Uganda’s opposition to gain insights, build solidarity, and draw support for their fight for democracy.
