Former Soroti Municipality Woman Member of Parliament, Crace Aciyo, has defected from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), just hours before NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi’s scheduled visit to Soroti City.

Aciyo was welcomed into the NRM fold by Pr. Robert Mbabazi, the National Coordinator of Team Thorough YKM Kira House and Presidential Mobilizer for Poverty Eradication and Development, along with Soroti City Assistant Resident City Commissioner Oroma Musa and other NRM supporters. This move came after a successful poverty eradication mobilization tour by Team Thorough in the Teso sub-region, where over 40 members from opposition parties such as NUP, FDC, and UPC joined NRM.

Pr. Mbabazi, during the campaign launch in Teso, called on coordinators from districts including Serere, Kumi, Soroti, Amuria, and Pallisa to embrace the four core principles of NRM: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-Economic Transformation, and Democracy, for the betterment of the nation.

Teso Sub-region is currently politically active as President Museveni resumes his zonal tours, with his visit to the Bukedi Region today, where he plans to meet with farmers at various stages of wealth creation.

“I congratulate them for waking up to take advantage of our advice and support,” President Museveni remarked. “We’ve been advocating for this since 1996, but many leaders weren’t educating the people on how to escape poverty.”

The president also emphasized that Uganda is a resource-rich country, and what is often perceived as poverty is simply a lack of knowledge. “There’s no poverty here; ignorance is the real issue. I’m glad to see our people slowly rising up,” he added.

Meanwhile, NUP leaders are actively campaigning in the Karamoja and Teso regions.
