Top Story!! What Angry Besigye’s Wife Said After Shoe Seller Gets Tortured & Remanded For Abusing Museveni & Gen Muhoozi
Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, has condemned the arrest of Ugandan TikTok personality Juma Musuuza, popularly known as Madubarah, highlighting what she described as double standards in handling political criticism.
Madubarah, a 27-year-old second-hand shoe vendor, was recently remanded to prison for allegedly making disparaging remarks about Uganda’s First Family. The charges arose from a TikTok video in which he claimed that if President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, assumed power, “the country would be destroyed within two days.” He also urged Ugandans to pray for the nation’s future.
Byanyima, who has faced intense public criticism herself, questioned why those in positions of power exhibit such “thin skin” when confronted with opposing views. She expressed frustration at the government’s apparent intolerance of dissent, contrasting it with the personal attacks she has endured without seeking punitive action against critics.
Madubarah’s case is the latest in a growing trend of arrests targeting TikTokers and social media users who voice critical opinions. Byanyima noted that he is the fifth person arrested within a week for online political commentary, calling for his immediate release.
“This is a clear attack on free speech. Ugandans should come together to secure his bail and support his return to work,” she urged, questioning whether the government should prioritize silencing dissenting voices over addressing pressing national issues.
The incident has reignited debate about the state of free expression in Uganda. Critics argue that the government’s actions undermine democratic principles, with calls growing louder for reforms to protect political commentary and freedom of speech.
