Herbert Anderson Burora Says That He Had Options To Choose The Job Or Remain True To His Conscience

Herbert Anderson Burora, the embattled figure of Rubaga Division’s Deputy Resident City Commissioner, has ceremoniously passed on his responsibilities, citing a commitment to his conscience over mere retention of his position. In an official transfer, he handed over the reins to Maureen Keita, the Deputy RCC of Kampala Central Division, adhering to directives from Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary to the Office of the President.

Reflecting on his departure, Burora expressed his conviction, stating, “Today, I relinquished the role of Deputy Resident City Commissioner in Rubaga Division. Five years and five months of service merit an honorable exit. It’s not about the title or job, as some may perceive; it’s about dedicated service. I had the choice to prioritize the position or remain true to my principles. I chose the latter.” This declaration was shared on his social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.

Highlighting his tenure, he acknowledged, “During my tenure, I may not have appeased everyone for various reasons, but fundamentally, I discharged my duties as expected. While I may not quantify my impact as a presidential representative, I can affirm my unwavering commitment to representing him to the best of my abilities.”

Burora announced plans for a press conference on March 21, 2024, to elucidate further on his decision. His suspension on March 14, 2024, stemmed from an alleged breach of official directives following a contentious meeting where he faced criticism.

During the meeting, Burora was censured for disregarding official guidance by persisting in social media communication without explicit authorization from his superiors. Consequently, he failed to assuage concerns or provide justifiable rationale for his actions. His suspension was enforced for 28 days, commencing from March 15, 2024.
