President Yoweri Museveni has expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of ambition among some Ugandans to escape poverty. Speaking at the launch of the 4-acre model initiative in Greater Kibaale, he noted that despite government efforts, many appear resigned to their financial struggles.Reflecting on his experiences in Kisozi, where he owns a ranch, Museveni shared how many locals seem content with their impoverished conditions.

“I fought with the people of Kisozi for a long time, but it seems some really enjoy living in poverty,” he said, recounting his conversations with residents who appear indifferent to changing their circumstances. However, he highlighted a shift in some areas, noting that out of 2,035 homes near his ranch, only 200 remain in poverty, with many now engaging in commercial farming. The President launched the 4-acre model initiative, led by Minister Fred Byamukama, to help rural communities maximize their limited land for agricultural production.

This initiative divides small plots into sections for different income-generating activities like crop cultivation and livestock rearing. While Museveni has supported similar programs in the past, such as Operation Wealth Creation, these efforts have faced criticism for limited impact and poor execution. Despite these challenges, including corruption and inadequate funding, the government remains committed to poverty eradication.

Museveni urged Ugandans to embrace government initiatives and adopt a productive mindset to improve their lives. He emphasized that the fight against poverty requires active participation from all citizens, particularly in shifting from subsistence to commercial farming.
