In a resolute announcement, Abed Bwanika, the representative from Kimanya-Kabonera, boldly cautioned against the meddling of what he deemed “Kampala hooligans” in the political affairs of Masaka. Bwanika, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and a two-time presidential candidate, underscored the imperative of fostering a conducive political environment in the greater Masaka region.

He unequivocally conveyed that disruptions from unruly party elements would not be sanctioned.Speaking on CBS FM last Saturday, Bwanika emphasized the need for individuals associated with NUP, partaking in the party’s program ‘Kungu’ from party headquarters to Masaka, to recognize that the region falls under the governance of NUP’s Deputy President, Mathias Mpuuga. Bwanika stressed the importance of showing respect to Mpuuga, asserting, “In Masaka, Hon. Mpuuga holds the position of our number one political leader; hence, anyone arriving in Masaka must acknowledge this fact.”

He adamantly declared that disrespect towards local leaders by individuals from Kampala would not be tolerated, emphasizing that NUP cards for political aspirants in Masaka are issued within the region itself.Bwanika’s statements underscore a strong local identity and a desire for regional political autonomy, with Masaka firmly under Mpuuga’s leadership. The mention of the red beret adds depth to Bwanika’s message, as he cautioned against abusing Mpuuga based on the symbolism associated with the NUP. “Engaging in verbal abuse towards Mpuuga simply because you are wearing a red beret upon arriving in Masaka will not be tolerated,” he warned, emphasizing the effort to establish credible leaders like Mpuuga.

His statements stress that wearing a red beret does not grant the right to disrespect or undermine leaders of credibility like Mpuuga. Bwanika’s statement reflects the commitment of the local populace in Masaka to resist external interference, underscoring the importance of respectful conduct and adherence to local processes in the region’s political landscape. It also highlights the delicate balance between political allegiance and maintaining order for a fair and democratic political environment in Masaka.
