Opposition Leader Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi exhibited empathy during his recent visit to Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya at Nairobi’s Agha-Khan Hospital, marking an almost two-month duration of hospitalization. Dismissing social media rumors about Ssegirinya’s health, Mr. Ssenyonyi assured the public of the opposition’s vigilant monitoring and pledged a comprehensive report for Parliament.
In the company of Chief Whip Mr. John Baptist Nambeshe, Mr. Ssenyonyi conveyed gratitude to Ssegirinya’s family, with a special acknowledgment to his mother, Ms. Justine Nakajumba, for their unwavering support. He provided assurance that Ssegirinya is progressing positively on the path to recovery, underscoring the pivotal role of prayer in the legislator’s healing journey.
In addressing broader concerns about Uganda’s healthcare facilities, Mr. Nambeshe advocated for increased investments in the healthcare sector to enhance working conditions for the nation’s skilled healthcare professionals. He underscored the dedication of Ugandan doctors caring for Ssegirinya in Kenya, emphasizing the urgent need for improved medical facilities within Uganda.
Ms. Nakajumba appealed to the public, particularly social media users, to abstain from disseminating baseless death rumors, emphasizing Ssegirinya’s imminent return to his constituency duties. She expressed gratitude to Parliament for its unwavering support during this challenging period.
Ssegirinya, previously incarcerated for over a year in Luzira prison on charges related to machete killings in greater Masaka, initially sought medical treatment in Germany and the Netherlands before being transferred to Kenya. His health concerns post-release, including reports of lung problems and skin-related infections, have heightened apprehension within the community, emphasizing the need for collective understanding and support.
