During a recent gathering held at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, President Museveni addressed 413 secondary school head teachers from greater western Uganda, Mubende, and Kasanda districts. According to him, Uganda is poor to increase the salary of teachers.

The primary focus of his discourse was the intricate connection between socio-economic transformation and the government’s capacity to enhance the remuneration of public servants. Emphasizing the imperative need for augmented resources, the President highlighted that societal transformation is pivotal in generating the requisite funds essential for elevating wages.

President Museveni underscored the vital role of families undergoing socio-economic metamorphosis in creating job opportunities, fostering income generation, and subsequently contributing more significantly through taxes. According to him, fortifying the government’s revenue through these changes would empower the state to augment the salaries of public servants, effectively responding to the appeals of arts teachers for salary increments.

Reflecting on the 2022 pronouncement that delineated the salaries of science and arts teachers, President Museveni staunchly defended the decision, accentuating the priority accorded to scientists in the workforce. He expounded on the government’s emphasis on professions like engineering and medicine, underscoring their strategic significance for national development.

In a cautionary tone against sectarianism, President Museveni contended that divisions based on tribes and religion perpetuate poverty. He urged Ugandans to prioritize the nation over narrow affiliations, highlighting Uganda’s pivotal role in fostering economic growth and lifting individuals out of poverty.

Meanwhile, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Ms. Janet Museveni, expressed gratitude for the President’s continuous guidance in the education sector. Ms. Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Minister for Presidency, lauded the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party for its core principles, attributing them to the progress of Ugandans and the comprehensive transformation of the economy under President Museveni’s leadership.
