Just In!! UNEB Releases Name Of The Best Performing School All Over Uganda
Kampala Parents School has consistently maintained its position among the top-performing schools in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) as recently released by the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB). With a longstanding history of academic excellence, the school attributes its success to the dedication of teachers and stakeholders, according to the headteacher, Dophine Kato.
Expressing gratitude for the outstanding performance, Ms. Kato emphasized the commitment to providing quality education to pupils. “We are happy and we thank our teachers and other stakeholders for this wonderful performance. Above all, we also dedicate these pupils to God, and therefore, we prepared them well enough,” she said.
In the detailed breakdown of the 2023 PLE results, the school reported impressive outcomes, with a majority of pupils achieving aggregates between 4 and 6. Despite challenges in accessing all results simultaneously, Ms. Kato expressed satisfaction with the gathered information. She stated, “You know we have a challenge with accessing all the results at ago but so far, with what we have managed to gather, it is good.”
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo highlighted that, overall, boys had proportionally outperformed girls in the examinations. He shared statistics indicating that 47,452 boys attained Division One, representing 13%, compared to 39,130 girls at 9.99%. However, in English, girls surpassed boys with a pass rate of 90.64%, whereas boys achieved 88.32%. The reverse was observed in the subjects of SST, Science, and Mathematics.
Concerns were raised about the substantial number of candidates in Division U, standing at 88,269 (10.4%). Odongo urged attention to prevent these candidates from becoming mere statistics of school dropouts. Specific districts, such as Kibuku, Madi Okollo, Dokolo, Kween, and Namisindwa, showed percentages well above the national average for candidates in Division U, necessitating a deeper investigation into the causes.
In terms of enrollment, a total of 749,254 candidates from 15,859 centers registered for PLE in 2023, marking a decrease from 832,654 in 2022. Among them, 501,602 (66.9%) were beneficiaries of Universal Primary Education (UPE), while 247,652 (33.1%) were non-UPE candidates.
